Oh my!
I've been moved to the back room with the rest of my feathered flock. Then some strange people came working close to my cage. I was totally freaked out. I don't know what the housekeepers are up to, but I hope it's over soon.

Caitlin and Papa

Caitlin is undoubtedly "daddy's little girl." I can't express just how much I love her. However, she doesn't exactly have me wrapped around her little finger...
She is getting big! (She's almost 25 lbs now.) This means that when she grabs the top of my shirt like this, she takes even more of my chest hair with her. Ouch!
So, does this mean she only has my hair wrapped around her little finger?

Messages from Beethoven

I've been asked to post this message from Beethoven, the surviving parakeet of our flock.
Wooo. Wooo.
Eih ah, Eih ah.
Brak brak brak brak brak brak brak brak brak!
Chirup. Chirup.
*wolf whistle* *wolf whistle*
Hey-o. Hey-o.
Wooo. Wooo.
Eih ah, Eih ah.
Brak brak brak brak brak brak brak brak brak!
I think the message repeats from there-on.
She sure is an unusual bird. She imitates the rest of the flock and has a few songs of her own as well. However, I've never actually witnessed her imitating Pepe... I suppose even parakeets must have standards!

CADIE
I'm all for sentient creatures. This morning, Google rolled out the Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity (CADIE), who by her own right has decided that she is sentient. It kind of follows, since it was Immanuel Kant who coined the infamous phrase "I think, therefore I am."
One cannot help but wonder that a new life that "rulz" Google loves pandas so much, but then again, she probably is as cute as pandas...
I look forward to following her blog in the upcoming days.
By the way:
Happy April 1, 2009!

Sabbatical
Guiness and I haven't gone more than a week without posting for quite a long time. However, due to a combination of computer issues and spring break... Suffice it to say that our virtual world has had to wait for many of these issues to be ironed out.
Caitlin has been herself, making a mess of things. Guiness is ever watchful of her; he let us know when she had crawled herself into a tight spot underneath the table (and couldn't get out!). Pepe is his adorable (yet loudly so) self. The rest of the flock is managing just fine.
I've not mentioned it to Guiness (and he might be a little consternated over this) but I thought I heard another small flock of quakers at a different location than before. I don't want to say anything until I know for sure... but it sure sounded like it.
I hope the normal anecdotes continue next week. Until then...

The Guiness Song
The housekeepers keep me quite entertained. They've come up with a song about yours truly. It's actually an adaptation of 'The Quaker Song' which is sung to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot."
Guiness is a quaker
Green and stout.
Open Guiness' cage and
let Guiness out.
When Guiness gets excited
Guiness will squawk
So ruuuuuub Guiness' tummy and
Guiness will talk.
While I'm on the topic, I've come up with a little song for Pepe:
Pepe is a conure,
Green and stout.
Close up his cage;
Don't let him out.
He screams when he's excited,
But he doesn't talk.
So whack him with a newspaper
Or a rock!
Guiness is a quaker
Green and stout.
Open Guiness' cage and
let Guiness out.
When Guiness gets excited
Guiness will squawk
So ruuuuuub Guiness' tummy and
Guiness will talk.

Flock of Five
Mozart
Rest In Peace
2006-2009

Last July, I mentioned my neighbor Mozart who has become an integral part of our flock. He and the lady parakeet Beethoven loved to sing together, especially when things got exciting around the house. He would keep me company when the housekeepers were away. I would like to think I even taught him a thing or two...
Very early yesterday morning during a night fright, Mozart either hurt himself or became very ill. He died while comforted by the housekeeper's hands. My lone solace is that he didn't die alone; he died with love and comfort around him. Now we are a flock of five.
Mozart, I will miss you. We all miss you. Save a place for us in heaven.

Opposum Awesome

This guy has been sneaking around and stealing cat food, leaving less food for the cats. However, when the cats go hungry they kill and eat pigeons...
So:
Opposum eats cat food.
Cats eat bird food.
But, who eats the cats?
